Personal Motor Insurance for your safety and piece of mind

A motor insurance policy is a mandatory policy as part of prevention of public liability to protect the general public from any accident that might take place on the road. The law stipulates that every owner of a motor vehicle must have a motor insurance policy.

Comprehensive

It covers damage to your own vehicle caused by accidents, fire or theft as well as any liability caused to third party property and/or bodily injury.

Third Party Fire & Theft

This cover includes damage to your vehicle caused by fire and/or theft only as well as any liability caused to third party property and/or bodily injury.

Third Party Only

This does not include any type of cover to your vehicle. It covers any liability caused to third party property and/or bodily injury.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Market Value of my vehicle established?
The market value of any vehicle is normally the price that it would fetch in the Maltese market if it had to be sold at that time. All vehicle values decrease every year and a guide on vehicle values is issued every year by the Malta Insurance Association. It is imperative to understand that this is simply a guide, as values vary depending on the condition and use of the vehicle.

What is an Excess?
An Excess is better defined as the first portion of a claim that you would have to pay if you need to open a claim

What is a ‘No claims discount’?
A no claims discount, is a count of the number of years in which you haven’t made a claim on your car insurance policy. The amount that its worth might vary from Insurer to Insurer, but a no claims discount of five years or more, for example, is likely to give you a very significant discount on your premium.

Will I lose my NCD when I claim?
Should you have a normal policy with full No Claims Discount, opening one claim (during one period of insurance) will normally lead to a reduction in the no claims discount. If, on the other hand, you would have a Protected No Claims Discount, one claim (during one period of insurance) would not affect the discount at all. Different Insurers may offer different conditions in relation to No Claims Discount.

How can I reduce my premium?
This is dependent on the type of cover you have opted for. Some of the most common discounts are the ‘No Claims Discount’, higher policy excess, limited drivers etc. You would also get discounts on premium if you insure more than one vehicle or perhaps your vehicle and your house with the same Insurer.

Do I get a replacement car if I have an accident?
Should you be involved in an accident whereby you are not at fault, you would get a replacement car from the Insurer of the other party who caused the accident. On the other hand, if the accident is your fault, you would normally get a replacement car up to a specified limit if you are insured on a comprehensive basis. Limits tend to vary from one insurer to another. The number of days for car hire will normally be for the period necessary for repairs to be completed.

What does the term ‘beyond economical repair’ mean?
Should your vehicle be involved in an accident, and the total cost of repairs exceed the current market value of the car, then your car would be declared as ‘beyond economical repair’ or more commonly referred to as ‘total loss’. Insurers would normally offer you a cash settlement rather than repairing your vehicle.

Am I automatically covered if I go abroad with my car?
You would typically be covered automatically for third party liability if you drive within EU countries. If your vehicle is insured on a Comprehensive or Third Party Fire and Theft basis, and you wish to keep the same cover whilst abroad, you will be required to speak to us and possibly pay an additional premium accordingly. There are some Insurers who offer a specific period, say 30 days, for free.

Will I get help from you if I am involved in an accident?
We will handle any claims on your behalf, and ensure you are treated fairly, also making sure you get back to where you were before disaster struck, in the shortest time possible.

All you need to know

Switch with VING

Most people always have doubts as to whether they are getting the right insurance cover or paying the right premium. We advise you otherwise – you don’t have to wait – Switch to VING today.

All you have to do is appoint us as your Insurance Brokers – we will take over all your current insurance policies as well as assist you with any active claims you might have.
